On August 6, 2013, a summer storm dropped golf-ball size hail on Eden Prairie. It dented cars and broke windows in the city. One Eden Prairie police squad lost its rear window.

Hail like that doesn’t just hit roofs. It hits glass, siding, gutters and anything facing the storm. Kiser Construction handles storm damage restoration in Eden Prairie from emergency tarping through the final repair. We’re a licensed Minnesota contractor (BC416441), and we’ve been doing this work since 2003. One company handles the roof, the windows, the siding and anything that got wet inside.

If your home took damage in a recent storm, this page covers what to check first and what happens when you call.

Eden Prairie storm damage history

Two recent storms show the kinds of damage Eden Prairie homes take.

August 2013: hail that broke windows

MPR News reported the 2013 hail damage in Eden Prairie the next morning, along with widespread power outages. Broken windows and dented cars were the headline, not roofs.

August 2022: wind that toppled trees

In late August 2022, a Saturday night storm toppled large trees in parts of Eden Prairie. One mature basswood came out of the ground roots and all.

Why storm damage restoration in Eden Prairie goes past the roof

Two things make Eden Prairie storm jobs different from a simple roof replacement.

Homes from the 1980s and 1990s boom

The city grew fast. It had about 16,000 residents in 1980 and nearly 55,000 by 2000. A home built in 1990 may still have its original windows and skylight seals. Those are the parts large hail breaks.

Mature trees near homes

Homes near the Minnesota River bluffs, Purgatory Creek and parks like Staring Lake and Round Lake often sit under mature canopy. A limb through a roof opens the house to rain in seconds.

Signs of storm damage: what to check first

Not sure whether your home took damage? A free inspection will tell you. Until then, here’s what to look for. Take photos before you clean anything up.

Windows and skylights

Look for cracked glass, fogged or broken seals and water on the sills. We repair and replace windows and doors as part of storm jobs.

Siding on the storm side

Hail and wind hit the side of the house facing the storm hardest. Look for cracked or holed siding, and for broken screens and trim on that same side.

Trees, limbs and the roof

Check for cracked limbs hanging over the roof or the driveway, and for missing or lifted shingles you can see from the ground.

Ceilings and the attic

New stains mean water already got in. That’s a drying job, not just a roof job.

How we handle storm damage, start to finish

Here’s what happens when you call.

1. Emergency protection

We tarp open roofs and board broken windows when a home is open to the weather. See our emergency board-up and tarping service.

2. Inspection and written scope

We inspect the whole house, photograph the damage and write a scope. You see what’s being repaired before work starts.

3. Your adjuster

We meet your adjuster and share our photos and scope. We don’t interpret your policy or adjust your claim. Learn more about our insurance claim assistance.

4. Repairs and walkthrough

Roof, siding, windows, gutters and any interior water damage are handled by one company on one schedule. You can follow that schedule in our customer portal. Every job carries a one-year warranty from the completion date.

Storm damage repair cost in Eden Prairie

Cost depends on what the storm hit. Replacing a few windows is a smaller job than a full roof. A tree through the roof with water inside is a bigger one still.

The biggest factors are roof size and pitch, how many windows and skylights broke, how much siding took damage, and whether water got inside.

Inspections are free, and you get a written scope before work starts. We work on 50/50 payment terms.

Hail-damaged windows and skylights: repair or replace?

Not every broken window needs a whole new unit. Here’s how we decide.

Glass only

If the frame and sash are sound and only the glass broke, the glass unit can often be replaced on its own.

Seals that fail later

Hail can crack a seal without breaking the glass. The first sign is often fogging between the panes weeks after the storm. Photograph it when you see it.

Frames, sashes and skylights

Cracked frames, bent sashes or a damaged skylight curb usually mean replacing the unit. Skylights take a direct hit because they face straight up.

Serving Eden Prairie and the west metro

Eden Prairie is part of the west metro we cover from our Eden Prairie and Edina service area.

We work in homes near Staring Lake Park and Round Lake Park, along Purgatory Creek, around Bryant Lake Regional Park and Duck Lake, and in the neighborhoods near Flying Cloud Airport and the I-494 corridor. Many of those streets sit under the same mature trees that make wind storms costly.

We also cover Edina, Minnetonka and the rest of the west metro.

Homes near the bluffs and creeks tend to have more tree cover. Homes on open lots see more hail on the siding and windows facing the storm. A free inspection tells you which kind of damage your home has.

We’re based in Elk River. When a storm hits Eden Prairie, we tarp, board up and inspect the same way we do anywhere else, and one project manager stays with your job until it’s done.
