Fire Damage FAQs

Will my house need to be torn down after a fire?

In severe cases, some homes need to be torn down and completely rebuilt after a fire. In other cases, a house can be salvaged after a fire. However, this does typically mean taking the damaged areas of your home down to the studs to ensure they can be made structurally sound again.

Can damaged belongings be salvaged after a fire?

Yes, some of your belongings may be able to be salvaged if they were damaged in a fire. Contents manipulation and cleaning is the process of carefully packing out your belongings, taking them to a secure storage facility, and thoroughly cleaning them with professional equipment to return them to their pre-damaged condition or as close to it as possible.

How long will it take to repair/rebuild my house after a fire?

Unfortunately, there’s not a one-size-fits-all answer to this question. The recovery timeline is going to depend on the extent of damage and the speed of your insurance company.

After filing a fire claim, an insurance adjuster will come out to your property for an inspection. Then, the insurance company will review the estimate for the scope of work generated by your restoration contractor. Once the scope is approved, your claim will be approved and the rebuild process can begin. Your contractor will then be able to provide a timeline for the project.

The insurance-approval process can sometimes take longer than it should, which is why we as a restoration company stay in touch with your insurance company, ensuring your claim doesn’t get lost in the shuffle.

Can I clean fire and smoke damage myself after a small fire?

It’s best to have a professional assess and mitigate fire and smoke damage, even if it’s minor. Improperly cleaning up the damage can have harmful health effects. There may also be hidden structural damage to your home. Additionally, trying to clean fire and smoke damage yourself can be counterproductive if you don’t have the proper equipment or cleaning products.

Will I need to move out during the fire damage restoration process?

Typically, you will have to find a temporary place to stay during the restoration process for safety reasons. This is especially true for cases of severe fire damage. The good news is that most insurance policies cover the cost of hotel stays and other additional living expenses while you are displaced from your home.
