Keeping Your Pets Safe From Fire Dangers
July 15th is National Pet Fire Safety Day. If you’re like us here at Kiser Construction, you look at your pets as members of the family and you’d do anything to keep them safe.
That’s why we gathered some tips from the American Kennel Club on keeping your pets safe from fire dangers.
Pet Fire Safety Tips
- Do not leave your pet unattended around open flames, including candles, stovetops, or fireplaces. Make sure to thoroughly extinguish any open flame before leaving your home.
- Take a walk around your home and look for hazards where pets might start fires inadvertently, such as knobs on the stove or loose cords and wires, especially if you have new/young pets.
- Keep collars and leashes at the ready in case you have to evacuate quickly with your pet. When you practice your fire escape route, do so with your pets.
- When leaving pets home alone, keep them contained in areas or rooms near entrances where firefighters can easily find them.
- You can install monitored smoke detectors which are connected to a home security monitoring center, adding a layer of protection beyond battery-operated smoke alarms.
- On a static window cling, write down the number of pets inside your house and attach it to a front window. Firefighters will see be able to see this and know how many pets are inside the house. Make sure to update this anytime the number of pets in your home changes.
